For Profit Organizations or Firms are not allowed to buy .org domains?

I just read an article on NYTimes which is about a Private firm who bought .org domain facing backslash.

Can anyone explain this to me, as I bought a .org domain a few weeks ago.

Article :

That private equity firm isn’t buying a .org domain, it is buying the rights to .org TLD from ICANN.

In the future, the prices can increase, or the firm can cause censorship so that’s why the backlash.

You don’t have to worry about this. Non profit organizations will take care of this.
